Thanksgiving morning with Scott!!
How many of you knew I had a 18 year old step son?? I can bet not many and although that is sad because he lives 3 hours away and with difficulties with his mother when Ron and I started dating we still have managed to squeeze out a relationship of sort with him. Our relationship with his mother has improved. I hope I made her realize no matter what his father needs to be a strong influence in his life. The past 5 yeas things have become so much nicer, but because it happened when he was around 13 he also got busy on weekends and couldn't spend them with us. He is in his senior year of high school and works so it is nearly impossible for him to come up. Ironically his mother's sister lives in Rock Island so he was up here celebrating Thanksgiving with her family and spent the morning with us. We haven't seen him in almost a year. Ron has seen him while down south working but Kylie and I haven't seen him. We took the opportunity to take a few pictures together and I thought I would share them with you here. Again they sure do grow up fast!!

How awesome that you have a "Scott" in your life! Being a step-parent is a very unconditional thing, and you really have to shut all the ugliness of the first marriage out and make sure that they know they are loved, no matter what. My husband's first marriage wasn't great, and unfortunately, still 15 years later I see remnants of the ugliness. It's not fair to children, but as a step parent you have to do the best you can.
