RING RING...nobody there!!

When I put out the request for friends and family members to send me suggestions of different things to do I knew that my father would be one of the first people to send me something back. He was the second. I however, find it ironic that he told me to go one day without using my cell phone. So today was the day. I turned if off when I woke up and haven't touched it since. Some of you might think this was difficult for me,IT WASN'T. In fact it was the complete opposite. Kylie and I laughed when we went out to go shopping this morning that I frantically looked for it and then she said "Mom you aren't suppose to have it" We laughed and left. I went shopping without having to answer my phone, be rude and talk while in the checkout lane or tell the cashier I was sorry that while she was ringing me up I couldn't devote 2 minutes to say hello to her because I was on the phone. I found out I am not the best cell phone user. In fact I might be considered annoying because I know I have done all that above simply to answer the phone. YIKES. I remember a time when we didn't have them. When we couldn't get a hold of someone at home we left a message not hang up and try their cell phone. How many of us have have looked around our house for a ringing phone only to have found it and they hang up and then our cell begins to ring. Is it really necessary for me to let everyone get a hold of me at their beck and call??? I do admit I enjoy having them for necessary phone calls from Ron, and my family or if work has a question...but can't they wait till they see me or get a hold of me when I am available?? I find it funny that the man who asked me to do this is the same man who called me 3 times on my cell phone today alone and he was one of the people who couldn't get a hold of me on my cell who then called my home. My father and I do have a close relationship. There isn't a day that doesn't go by that I don't call him or he calls me. In fact his friends say hello Lisa when his phone rings because they are betting it is me calling.
I turned my phone on prior to begin my blogging and I had 7 messages and 23 missed phone calls. YIKES right? 4 of the people who left messages got a hold of me when they called my house. Normally I am at work during this time and wouldn't have been able to answer the phone on a normal day anyway. Who knows!! It was eye opening on how much I rely on my pink little phone, it sure was a lot more quiet than normal. Could you go one day with turning it off??

Dad you know I admire you and consider you one of my best friends. I have enjoyed watching you play and interact with Kylie for the past 10 years. Keep your heart singing and making us laugh. You are loved far more than you will ever know and you have given me many life lessons. We only have you for one more week in Illinois and then you head for Arizona and although I might not enjoy you guys leaving I do know that you deserve to be there after your life of hard work. I love you!!! Thanks for my suggestion.

What a wonderful suggestion! This is one that I hope you keep up as your time shopping with Kylie, or even by yourself is your time. Trust me when you stop being immediately available - people will leave a message if it is truly important. I carry a cell phone - but when I am out and about I often leave it locked in my car. It is there if I need it - but it is not sucking my privacy and eating away at the precious little free time I have.

Enjoy!
